STOP HIV Program

The Screening, Testing, Outreach, and Prevention (STOP) HIV Program, funded by the Office of Minority Health (OMH), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), aims to decrease the spread of HIV among college-aged African-American and other minority youth through HIV/AIDS education and outreach and the promotion of screening and testing to at-risk populations.

Specific Goals:

  1. Promote HIV awareness and prevention through model programs to increase access to and use of health information, services, and follow up
  2. Develop approaches to more effectively promote HIV risk reduction through campus-community linkages
  3. Engage students in training, experiential learning, and mentoring, to improve their cultural, linguistic and literacy competency

Orientations and Annual Meetings
Each year, an Orientation and Annual Meeting are held at UNCFSP headquarters for the institutional partner principal investigators.  These are held to assess progress over the program year and activity plans for the next year.  An Orientation is also held in the summer for interns selected for the Summer Institute Internship Program.

UNCFSP Administration
UNCFSP manages and administers the STOP HIV Program with the three institutional partners.

UNCFSP conducts trainings and technical assistance sessions with the institutional partners to address questions and concerns related to project implementation and to determine progress on their annual activities.

UNCFSP conducts annual needs assessment of peer education, curriculum, marketing, policy, and health services provided related to HIV/AIDS on the campuses.

UNCFSP hosts a website for communication amongst institutional members and UNCFSP as well as to highlight accomplishments and ongoing activities from each institution.

Internships
Each year a certain number of students from each of the partner institutions are selected to participate in the STOP HIV Summer Institute Internship Program.
