The United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation (UNCFSP) is delighted to have worked in partnership with Hoffmann-LaRoche Pharmaceuticals, Inc. on the "Your Body · Your Life · Protect Yourself" Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Sex Awareness Campaign and the "Enhancing Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at HBCUs through Health Communications & Social Marketing Campaign". These campaigns were developed to enhance involvement and participation in HIV/AIDS and other health disparities (e.g. Diabetes, Cancer, etc.) prevention activities on selected campuses designed by and for college students.

“Your Body, Your Life, Protect Yourself” Social Marketing Campaign on HIV is an affiliated project of the HOPE Program, increases awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS/STIs and Hepatitis C among HBCU students. Campaign materials include a 12-minute peer-led video that was disseminated to other HBCUs. Other CBA strategies included focus groups and interdisciplinary educational forums (e.g. health and communications). The campaign developed a comprehensive series of the PSAs and other footage that were intended to encourage protection, self love and increased awareness about HIV and the need to practice safer sex practices.

“Enhancing Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at HBCUs” Health Communications and Social Marketing Campaign was developed as a result of effective development and measures of the “Your Body, Your Life, Protect Yourself” Social Marketing Campaign. Through a rigorous competitive application process of key field peer reviewers, the Division of Public Health (DPH) selected and funded three institutions to develop and implement a health disparity related social marketing campaign on their campuses.  Each applicant was required to provide capacity statements and to include student workgroups as a part of increasing impact and appropriateness of the PSA for their student body. Upon completion of all PSAs, UNCFSP will expose the PSAs to a pre-selected Minority Institutions’ student body to assess effectiveness and impact of the messages.
