CIPA Curriculum Improvement Partnership Award (CIPA)
The CIPA Program assists two-year and four-year Minority Institutions with strengthening their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) academic fields and technical programs. Funding is used to increase the quantity and quality of STEM curricula, the number of minority students that study these curricula, and the number of minority students that choose careers in NASA-related fields. Some examples of CIPA activities include the development of an undergraduate minor in the field of computerized measurements and instrumentation, the creation of a Bioscience Improvement Center, and the implementation of community outreach, such as math and science enrichment programs for elementary, middle and high school students.
DOD-SIOP Department of Defense Summer Internship (DOD-SIOP)
The Department of Defense (DoD) Summer Internship Opportunities Program (SIOP) seeks to build a cadre of new scientists and researchers at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions (HBCU/MIs), thereby increasing the number of underrepresented minorities that pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) degrees and enter STEM careers. Interns will gain hands-on experience at DoD research laboratories while being mentored by scientists and researchers.
JPFP NASA Harriett G. Jenkins Predoctoral Fellowship Project (JPFP)
JPFP increases the number of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities participating in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce, thereby helping to eliminate the shortage of skilled workers in STEM-related disciplines.
JPFP-MINI-SPRING JPFP Mini Research Award - Spring Session (JPFP-MINI-SPRING)
MES Mentorship for Environmental Scholars Program (MES)
The Mentorship for Environmental Scholars (MES) program, sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE), is a ten-week paid summer internship in the areas of biotechnology, computer science, environmental science, and engineering. MES actively trains and recruits qualified students from Minority Institutions to create a pipeline that will pilot them towards DOE management and research positions.
MUST Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology Program (MUST)
The MUST program awards scholarships and internships to undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, more widely know as STEM fields. The MUST Program is open to all students and is particularly focused on engaging students from underserved and underrepresented groups to enter STEM fields (Women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans and persons with disabilities).

Each year, the MUST Program will support approximately 100 undergraduate students with a one-year competitive scholarship of up to one-half of tuition, not to exceed $10,000. Program participants will also receive a $5,000 stipend to participate in a summer research experience at a NASA center. Students will benefit year-round from tutoring, lecture series and mentoring from STEM faculty and peers. The scholarships and internships will be renewable for up to three years, provided the students continue to meet the academic requirements.
NAFP NASA Administrator’s Fellowship Project (NAFP)
NAFP enhances the professional development of NASA employees and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) faculty at Minority Institutions (MIs). The program also increases the capability of MIs to respond to NASA’s research, development, and education needs.
NSTI NASA Science and Technology Institute (NSTI)
Proximity to public and private research facilities can facilitate collaborations and engagement in cutting-edge research. The NASA Science and Technology Institute for Minority Institutions (NSTI), located within the NASA Research Park (NRP) at the NASA Ames Research Center (ARC), brings together the expertise of Minority Institutions to give researchers unparalleled access to NASA facilities, scientists and capabilities. Students, faculty, researchers and teachers associated with NSTI also tap into an established network of scientists and technologists from the R&D companies within the neighboring Silicon Valley area.
NSTI-FFP NSTI Faculty Fellowship Program (NSTI-FFP)
A new summer faculty fellowship program is currently being offered through the NASA Science and Technology Institute (NSTI). This fellowship program targets full-time, early career, STEM faculty from Minority Institutions (MI) in the United States. Faculty Fellows will engage in an ten week research experience with scientists and engineers at the NASA Ames Research Center located in Mountain View, California. Additionally, the fellowship recipients will receive professional development training, a stipend to cover housing, travel and living expenses. A primary goal of the fellowship program is to strengthen the relationship between the NASA and the minority higher education community.
NSTI-MI-CLUSTERS NSTI-MI Research Clusters (NSTI-MI-CLUSTERS)
The purpose of the UNCFSP NSTI-MI is to create a consortium of Minority Institutions (MIs) that will participate in cutting edge research in collaboration with NASA, other government agencies, private organizations, majority institutions as well as research and technical organizations through the establishment of Research and Development (R&D) partnerships. MIs selected through this competition will become members of a national research consortium and UNCFSP NSTI-MI program will provide funds in the form of fellowship stipends to support faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. The UNCFSP will facilitate the formation of focus research clusters through the NSTI-MI program and cluster members will conduct collaborative research and attract new grants and contracts for their home institutions.
NSTI-SSP NSTI Summer Scholars Program (NSTI-SSP)
The NSTI Summer Scholars is seeking undergraduate students who wish to experience a 10-week internship at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View CA, NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston TX or NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland OH. Interns will work with and be mentored by NASA scientists and researchers.
