Division of Science and Technology

The Division of Science and Technology addresses the challenge of increasing the participation of underrepresented populations in the nation’s STEM workforce through a variety of different projects that all work collaboratively. The Divisions’ projects all follow the same underlying philosophy of UNCF Special Programs based on the following three capacities: (1) offering technical assistance to Minority Institutions; (2) linking academia, government and private industry through capacity building; (3) and ultimately focusing on sustainable outcomes through workforce development. The Division enhances curricula and infrastructure, builds collaborations and support networks, and provides experiences and resources that enable faculty and students to engage in cutting-edge research by providing:

  • Research grants;
  • Faculty and student fellowships;
  • Research based internships; and
  • Training and discipline-focused mentoring and networking opportunities.

Furthermore, this Division has led to the cultivation of leaders within STEM fields who have contributed to the successful launch of new synergies in science and technology study and practice. Divisional highlights include the production of knowledgeable, capable and qualified individuals for leadership and study; and advancing the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematical applications to national and global challenges.
